Non-Monogamy Counselling

Non-Monogamy Counselling

Our counsellors understand that we were each born into an environment that had specific expectations around how we would engage with life, love, relationships, ourselves and others. When we do not fit with those expectations, we often experience distress, shame, judgement and feelings of disappointment. Although there is a growing body of resources, most of us have not had many lived examples to help us in our engagement with our non-traditional selves (including post-colonial two-spirit, lesbian, gay, queer, transgender, and non-binary selves), relationships, and ways of being.

Our therapists often support folks around these particular issues:

  • Exploring forms of Ethical Non-Monogamy that may actually work for you (including and not limited to hierarchical polyamory, non-hierarchical polyamory, solo polyamory, poly/mono relationships, polycules, triads, relationship anarchy, open relationships)

  • Expanding communication skills in efforts to foster healthy, non-traditional relationships

  • Shedding expectations that do not align with your authentic self

  • Establishing ethical boundaries, communication and agreements

  • Understanding feelings of jealousy

  • Validating the distress associated with non-acceptance

  • Shame associated with being your authentic self

  • Fears around judgement
