Join Our Team

We are a queer-owned and run virtual counselling community that offers phone and video counselling to clients throughout “British Columbia”. While we started with a physical counselling center in East Vancouver, COVID uprooted us, and our team now operates more expansively within British Columbia. Specifically, our team works from within the unceded traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh), and the K’ómoks Peoples.

At the GS we are not general kinds of counsellors responding to general kinds of counselling issues. We are a counselling group made up of non-normative counselors who benefit from the support and insight of working as a community, within our community. As individuals, we experience both growth as a result of our different identities and a sense of relief due to our shared identities with members of our team. We find that this naturally encourages essential learning, while also freeing up a portion of our energy to focus on our own wellness, and our work with our clients.

We provide counselling, groups, and workshops to our communities facilitated by our diverse group of therapists.

We specialize in serving non-normative demographics, including folks engaging in, identifying within, and/or exploring:

  • Many forms of ethical non-monogamy and polyamory

  • Neurodiversity (including ADD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum)

  • Kink and Fetish Play

  • Sexuality including lesbian, gay, pansexual, queer, two-spirit people and beyond

  • Gender identity and expression including transgender, intersex, gender non-conforming, and non-binary communities and beyond

  • Sex work and sex positivity

  • Religious trauma and spiritual abuse, indoctrination, recovery from cults, high control religions, evangelicalism, harmful religious communities

In witnessing our amazing clients, we work through an Anti-Oppressive Lens with an ever-growing, acute awareness of privilege and oppression.

We are open to welcoming another Registered Clinical Counsellor to join our team and we are looking for a counsellor who has an embodied understanding of intersectionality and its potential impact on mental health, as our clients come to us with an expectation of competency in these areas.

Beyond work and/or lived experience with a number of the topics listed above, we are looking for a counsellor with a number of these qualities:

  • A counsellor who has the ability to engage with complex spectrums using empathy and compassion

  • Someone who has a deep understanding of intersectionality and the nuances that exist within queer culture

  • Someone who is skilled in deconstructing gender and supporting folks who identify at many points within and beyond the gender spectrum

  • Someone who could benefit from both the freedom and support of a group practice

  • Someone who appreciates being a part of a team and would like to be with us at the GS for the long term

  • Someone who finds value in regular clinical and ethical consultation and support

  • Someone who is able to stay organized and professional, while also contributing to the deconstruction of the systems that negatively impact us, our community, and the clients we serve

  • Someone who makes efforts to dismantle racism and colonialism, and who practices this anti-racism in a way that is personal and true, without taking up anxious space and display

We are looking for a counsellor with these skills and capacities:

  • Someone who has space to envision being a part of The GS Team for the long term

  • Someone who values striving for work/life balance (our clients need this from us)

  • Someone who values offering a small portion of their counselling practice on a sliding scale. While we do not receive a great number of sliding scale requests at The GS, we seriously value providing a slightly reduced rate to certain members of our community. The number of clients who the therapist sees at a reduced rate is an unfolding conversation and it has a cap to ensure the therapist’s earnings support their financial needs. This cap looks different for each therapist.

  • Beyond all this, we are looking for someone who aligns with our values of offering a sustainable portion of our time on a sliding scale to clients who face certain financial barriers, largely due to systemic discrimination. At The Grounding Stone, this is a part of our lifestyle, our lens, and the way that we strive to pay the debt of our privilege.

  • Someone who has a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Clinical Social Work

  • Someone who is registered or qualified to be registered as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), a Master’s Level Registered Social Worker (RSW), or a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW)

  • Someone who enjoys the freedom and ease of providing phone and video counselling

  • Someone who has experience and/or interest in providing relationship therapy to folks engaging in various forms of polyamory and ethical non-monogamy

  • Someone who has a capacity and desire to work within some of the communities to which they belong. In order to provide sustainable care for our clients who are seeking support from counsellors with resonant lived experience, we encourage QT/BIPOC Folks to apply for this position. If you are comfortable and/or able we encourage you to self-disclose in your cover letter and we will assure confidentiality.

As a member of our team, you will be given access to:

  • A bi-weekly Support Hour that includes Group Clinical Consultation, Peer Supervision, connection and relationship building with the rest of the team

  • A sustainable number of Team Gatherings (usually in Vancouver) that are crafted to be fun and/or interesting given our shared identities and work, a couple times a year

  • Support in developing any groups and/or workshops that may be of interest to you and support in accessing participants and marketing materials

  • Check ins and meetings with the director to support your counselling practice and business organization and direction

  • Access to clinical crisis/emergency support from both the team and our Clinical Consultant, a Registered Psychologist

  • Access to step by step business support and financial planning

  • Work Safe BC Coverage that provides you compensation for a workplace injury that may impact your ability to work and earn income

  • A steady stream of referrals that both fit with and expand your interests and skills

  • Routine administrative services, including appointment scheduling, client invoicing, record management

  • New client processing and data entry

  • Practice Management Software

  • Cloud storage and MS Office Programs including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

  • Twenty-four hour confidential voicemail service

  • Client invoicing and assistance with billings to third party providers

  • Monthly reporting of fees collected and accounts receivable

  • Advertising and/or promotional activities and materials for the practice, including website presence and professional headshots

  • Company letterhead and other office material normally used in the course of business

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • Support in navigating the consideration of investing in various insurance plans
